Since September of 2004, ASK has organized Monthly Forums on adoption-related issues. Past Forums have included guests speaking on Korean foster care, sex education, teenage pregnancy, global trends in intercountry adoption, and media portrayals of adoptees. In addition to learning more about the many issues related to intercountry/transracial adoption, we are committed to fostering relationships with individuals and organizations that are at the forefront of instigating social change in Korean society.

ASK-G.O.A.'L. Forum on Mental Health and Adoption VII:
Moving Through Adoption in Korea

When: Sunday, April 29, 2012 from 12-2 p.m.
Where: Lotte Castle Café (directions below)

At this forum co-sponsored by ASK and G.O.A.’L., therapist Eli Fehler will give a brief presentation and facilitate a discussion on moving through the adoptee experience while living in Korea. She will touch upon the identity awakening that occurs in an adoptee's experience coming to Korea, navigating life here and in the "return" home as well as the pressure to "re-assimilate." Participants are encouraged but not required to ask questions related to adoption, including general themes of moving forward. Those who were able to attend a previous ASK forum may also ask follow-up questions on other topics discussed then.

This will be an adoptee-only event. There is a limit of 30 participants so please RSVP via Facebook as soon as possible.

Light snacks, drinks and a list of mental health resources will be provided. Hope to see you there!

DIRECTIONS

If this is your first time, please give yourself enough time to find the office in case you get lost. We suggest planning to arrive 10 minutes early.

Lotte Castle President, Bldg 101, 9th floor, 467 Gongdeok-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, South Korea 121-916

Castle Café is located in the Lotte Castle President building connected to the Gongdeok subway station (Lines 5, 6, ARX). Go out Exit 2 until you’re at the street level. At the top of the stairs turn right and follow the sidewalk up the hill past the Lotte City Hotel. As you walk, you will round a corner (continuing to follow the sidewalk) and then turn right into the second driveway, where you will see a guard booth. Walk immediately to your right, and you will see a set of revolving doors. Go through the revolving doors. Sign in at the desk and the staff there will send you up the elevator.

The venue is on the 9th floor at the Castle Café (on the sign, "Castle" is written in Korean but "Café" is in English). We will also put up a sign with an arrow at the elevators directing people.

If you have any difficulties, please call 02-749-7915.
