Since September of 2004, ASK has organized Monthly Forums on adoption-related issues. Past Forums have included guests speaking on Korean foster care, sex education, teenage pregnancy, global trends in intercountry adoption, and media portrayals of adoptees. In addition to learning more about the many issues related to intercountry/transracial adoption, we are committed to fostering relationships with individuals and organizations that are at the forefront of instigating social change in Korean society.

RESOURCED THROUGH WRITING: Mental Health and Adoption Part II Saturday, January 15 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at KoRoot
Organized by Adoptee Solidarity Korea Hosted by KoRoot (for directions please see below) Time and date: January 15 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Workshop facilitators: Molly Cho (ASK Member) and Kim Hyo-Jung Campbell (ASK Representative) *This will be an adoptee-only event! *There is no admission fee but if you want to attend we kindly ask you to rsvp via Facebook.
WORKSHOP This writing workshop aims to provide a safe and comfortable space to self-reflect, share with others, and add to the "toolbox" of mental health resources within the adoptee community. Adoption specific writing prompts will be given to facilitate the writing process and small discussion groups held afterward. Participants are encouraged to share their writing or thoughts with others, but this is not mandatory. Perhaps you are a seasoned writer or never write at all, this is a great opportunity to put your thoughts to paper in a room full of supportive, fellow adoptees.
Inspired by author Natalie Goldberg and her book titled Writing Down the Bones: Freeing the Writer Within, we will take Goldberg's advice and ask you to "write down the bones." From the book:
"These are the rules. It is important to adhere to them because the aim is to burn through to first thoughts, to the place where energy is unobstructed by social politeness or the internal censor, to the place where you are writing what your mind actually sees and feels, not what it thinks it should see or feel."(Goldberg, 9)
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. Molly Cho can be reached at cho. molly@gmail.com. Kimberly Hyo-Jung Campbell can be reached at kimcampbell03@gmail.com.
Hope to see you there!
